Knowledge College ranks highly in ODE Effectiveness Report

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

September 26, 2011. Cleveland, Ohio—-The Ohio Department of Education publicly released the effectiveness scores for over 200 SES Tutoring Companies in the state today. While over half of the companies in the report ranked as either “not effective” or “needs improvement,” some companies fared well and proved to be good stewards of educational improvement. These were ranked as “effective.” Helping students achieve better grades, student scores on classroom and state tests, and parent satisfaction were among the factors that were considered in the report. Knowledge College, Inc. was once again ranked in the top category (Effective).

“Knowledge College has consistently been the number one choice for parents in Northeast Ohio year after year which is usually a pretty good indication that we are providing a quality service” said co-owner Mark Molnar. “The fact that the ODE report backs up our belief and places our services in the ‘effective’ category is a nice confirmation and a well-deserved feather in the cap of the quality tutors that we have on staff” added co-owner and former Cleveland Teacher, Lisa Deliz.

“While the effectiveness report is far from perfect, the state has begun to provide a good starting point for parents to begin to discern the quality tutoring programs from those offering less value. The next step is for the parents to begin to take an active role in asking questions and choosing the best provider for their needs. In many cases, that choice is Knowledge College!” said Patty Renaud, also a former Cleveland Teacher and owner of KCI.

Knowledge College is one of the largest providers of SES Tutoring services in the state of Ohio and has provided thousands of students free tutoring services since its founding in 2006. The Company employs over 150 full and part time employees throughout the school year in various positions including tutors, site managers, programs managers, and clerical staff.

Fantastic results from our 2011 parent survey

Knowledge College continually strives to improve our tutoring program each year. That is why we send parent surveys home in March.   Outside of testing the students, parent feedback is the best measure of how well we are doing.   And we are so thankful for all the parents who participated in the survey this year.   Here is what we found out from the survey:

  • 95% of all parents said they would sign-up with Knowledge College again next year.
  • 95% of parents rate our program as satisfactory to excellent.

  • 92% were happy with the communication they received from the tutor about his/her child’s progress.

  • 96% were pleased with the time and location of tutoring.

In short, we provided a great service, communicated student progress regularly, and provided tutoring at a location and time that was convenient for each family. How can you beat that? If you weren’t a part of our program this year and you would like to be contacted for the 2011-2012 school year, please provide us your contact information by clicking here.

If that’s not enough, here is a small collection of quotes from the parent surveys:

This is a wonderful program. We have participated for several years and I believe the ongoing help from year to year is a factor in it’s effectiveness”

Parent at Fullerton Elementary

Sign the Petition to Save Free After-School Tutoring

In many of America’s worst school districts, students have access to a free tutoring program that is funded by No Child Left Behind.  That program is endanger of disappearing when the reauthorization of the Elementary Secondary Education Act takes place later this year. Knowledge College operates under the umbrella of this funding.

Budget cuts are forcing classrooms to overflow with kids.  Its getting more difficult for teachers to help all their students during a normal school day.  The free after-school tutoring program picks up where the teachers left off by providing individualized or small group instruction.

You can help save the program by signing the petition. Thank you!

Knowledge College Summer Camp is Back!!!
Our plan is to service up to 50 students in two neighborhoods on Cleveland’s near west side. This day camp will run from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm for 4-weeks during the summer and service all children in grades K – 6. The camp will focus on traditional camp activities such as arts & crafts, sports & recreation, and technology. In addition, Knowledge College will also incorporate formal literacy and math instruction to leverage our company’s foundation.

Summer Learning Facts:
Extensive studies by Johns Hopkins University have shown that kids can lose up to two months or more of math and reading skills each summer. Those same studies have shown that two-thirds of the 9th grade achievement gap between low and high-income students is due to a lack of adequate summer learning activities. Many teachers have to spend at least 4-6 weeks of each school year re-teaching the previous years material.

Unfortunately, some youth face anything but idyllic summer months. When the school doors close, many children struggle to access educational opportunities, as well as basic needs such as healthy meals and adequate adult supervision.

Knowledge College has already been working in the community for several years. The next logical step is to continue our mission is to partner with a church during the summer months to eliminate these staggering statistics in our neighborhoods.
